Meet Michael

Michael Farrington is a nonpartisan candidate for the Regional Transportation District (RTD) Board of Directors, District K, in Colorado’s 2026 election. A fourth-generation Coloradan who grew up in Commerce City, Michael is a RTD rider, a law school graduate focused on land use and housing, and a co-founder of YIMBY North Metro.

Michael is running to make RTD safer, more reliable, and more accountable to the people it serves.

Background

Michael grew up in the communities he is now running to represent. He understands how much families depend on reliable transportation to reach work, school, medical appointments, and other essential services..

Michael attended the University of Colorado Law School, where he studied land use, housing, local government, and the public policies that shape growing communities.

Today, Michael works with Colorado cities on land-use and legal issues. Through that work, he has seen how public agencies make decisions, how housing and transportation policies affect each other, and how local governments can turn practical ideas into real improvements.

Michael also co-founded YIMBY North Metro, a housing advocacy organization supporting more homes, walkable neighborhoods, and responsible development near transit. Strong transit lowers transportation costs, gives people more choices about where they live, and helps communities grow without requiring every family to depend on a car.

Why Michael Is Running

As an RTD rider, Michael sees the missed connections, long waits, safety concerns, and service gaps that make transit difficult to rely on.

He is running to make RTD safer, more reliable, and more accountable. His priorities include frequent and dependable service, safer buses and trains, better stations, responsible spending, and clear accountability when RTD falls short.

The RTD Board is a nonpartisan office. Michael is running to represent every rider and community in District K, regardless of political affiliation.

Michael lives in Commerce City with his wife, Kassidy, and their dog, Zeus.
