I’m Michael Farrington, and
I’m running to make RTD work for Everyone
RTD is failing our Communities
Michael with his wife Kassidy
It’s time to change that.
That’s why I am running to represent Commerce City, Brighton, and Thornton (District K) on the RTD Board. I believe our transit system should work for people helping families get to jobs, schools, and services while supporting more housing choices and walkable neighborhoods. I grew up in Commerce City and know firsthand the challenges when buses don’t show up or the system doesn’t feel safe.
We don’t need career politicians who have spent the last decade working on these issues only for them to get worse, we need leaders focused on fixing the system: not their next political office. On the RTD Board, I’ll fight for practical, common sense solutions: more frequent buses and trains, a safer experience, and a system that puts riders first.
It’s time for RTD to work for everyone.
Safety and Security so Every Rider Feels Safe
Everyone deserves to feel safe on RTD. Right now, too many riders don’t, and that has to change.
My goal is simple: buses, trains, and stations should be safe enough that you would trust your child, parent, or friend to ride every day. As RTD Director, I’ll have officers actually riding buses and trains, form stronger partnerships with local District Attorneys, direct consistent fare enforcement, and create clear consequences for those who threaten or harm others.
If we want more people to choose RTD, we need a system that is (and feels safe), reliable, and accountable.
Smarter Spending, Better Service
RTD needs to earn back the trust of riders and taxpayers. Families all over Colorado are stretching every dollar, and RTD should be doing the same.
As RTD Director, I’ll focus spending on what riders actually need: safe, frequent, and reliable service. That means cutting waste, being honest about where money is going, and prioritizing investments that help people get to work, school, church, appointments, and home again.
Fiscal responsibility is not just about balancing the books. It is about making sure every dollar improves service and strengthens our communities.
Better Stops, Better Homes: Using RTD’s Unused Land for Good
RTD is a transit agency first, but it also owns valuable land, including parking lots and empty parcels that are often underused. At the same time, families across the Front Range are struggling with rising housing costs.
As RTD Director, I’ll push RTD to partner with local governments and affordable housing developers to turn unused land near buses and trains into homes people can afford. Building housing near transit helps people live closer to work, school, and services, reduces traffic, and supports stronger, more walkable neighborhoods.
RTD’s land can and should serve riders and communities, not sit empty like it has for decades.
